Hey everyone,
It’s been a little bumpy for craft beer in the valley lately. A few solid spots have closed their doors, and you hear the usual talk about younger folks drinking less. We feel that shift like everyone else in the industry.
But here at South of Shaw, we’re cranking. Every night we open the doors downtown, the taproom is full of life. Laughter, clinking glasses, hot pizza coming out of the oven, and people genuinely enjoying themselves.
Good beer and great pizza will always bring folks in, but we’ve always felt that what makes a pub special is the room itself. Walk in, grab a seat, and you’re instantly part of whatever’s happening. Trivia, karaoke, or just friends (old and new) sharing pizza and pints. That’s the magic.
We love that a lot of younger folks are being more intentional these days. They want solid flavor without a big commitment, they care about the atmosphere, and they’re open to new experiences. That fits us perfectly. You don’t need to be a beer nerd or even drink beer to belong here. Come for a flight and a margherita, split some apps, grab a session beer or NA option, or just hang out and soak up the atmosphere.
You’ll see multi-generational families laughing together, coworkers kicking back after a long day, and lots of 20-somethings discovering how fun and relaxed a taproom can actually be. That’s why the pub still matters. It’s a real third place. Not home, not work, just a welcoming spot where the community actually connects.
American Craft Beer Week is right around the corner (May 11-17), and we’re using it as another excuse to celebrate. Fresh taps, specials, and the usual great energy. Whether you’re a Mile 5 Lifer or walking in for the first time, consider this your invitation.
Come for the pizza. Stay for the atmosphere. Bring your friends, old, young, or anywhere in between.
We’re grateful for every one of you who makes this place what it is. Fresno’s downtown is building something good, and we’re proud to be right in the middle of it. One pint, one pizza, and one fun night at a time.
See you soon,
The South of Shaw Crew
